HOW IT ALL STARTED
It’s hard to believe that when the World Series of Poker began back in 1970, there were fewer than 50 poker tables in the entire city of Las Vegas.
Binion’s Horseshoe, the host casino, did not even have a poker room. The contest was held inside an alcove about the size of an ordinary hotel room.In this place was held The World Series of Poker until it was closed for non-payment of taxes in 2004.
The first Series attracted just seven players and consisted of cash games played across different poker variants. The winner was decided by vote, with the legendary Johnny Moss emerging as the first ever Champion. The format changed in 1971 to the now familiar freezeout tournament structure, a decision that helped make the Series more exciting.
The Word Series of Poker is one of the world's highest rating sports telecasts.
Every summer, all eyes are on only one location for live poker - Las Vegas, Nevada, where the World Series of Poker sprawls over a month and a half, bringing together the biggest names in the game.
The winner of each World Series of Poker tournament event is awarded a gold bracelet, which many players value more than the cash prize.
One of the leading money winners in the World Series of Poker has been T. J. Cloutier. Over the years, he has finished in the money in over 30 WSOP poker game events. He has also won five first place WSOP gold bracelets in various events.
With over 100.000.000 $ in prize money and fifty five gold bracelet events, The World Series of Poker has reached big proportions and is continuing to make poker history.
